Children's Vision

Good eyesight is every child’s passport to the future. Yet it’s easy to think there is nothing wrong with their child’s sight, not realising that vision can change quickly as young eyes develop. Also, some children may not recognise they have a visual problem.

Did you know?

  • One in five school children has an undetected eye problem?
  • Eighty percent of a child’s learning occurs visually. So if children have poor vision they will find it difficult to learn at school and reach their full potential.
  • Without early treatment, vision defects such as lazy eye can become permanent disabilities.
  • Annual eye examinations could be crucial for your child’s healthcare and personal development.

Free sight tests for children

The NHS provides free sight tests for children, so it will cost you nothing to have their eyes examined. If your child does need glasses you will be able to choose from a wide range of spectacles specifically designed for children’s faces. At Scotspecs, children’s frames are free.
